The Problem
The internet is full of good things and it should help us to grow and learn and connect with others. But it is chaotic and it is very hard to hold onto the things you like without the ads or "algorithms" and other distractions getting in the way.
The Solution: Flojourn - The network without the noise
The idea is to divide up your interests and activities into different journals. Each journal looks like a social media stream and you add entries whenever you want.
Write original entries or gather useful links directly from your normal web browser (eg Chrome, Safari, Edge). Entries can include, links, text, images, maps and more.
Follow and Collaborate
You can keep a journal private or you can share it with selected friends or make it completely public.
You can follow other people's public journals or the journals they share with you.
Whoever creates the journal can make rules about who can read, reply or add new posts. The rules can apply generally or can give individuals additional access.
Between Messaging and Broadcasting
If you have a group of more than a few individuals and need to share and coordinate, a website is too public but messaging gets very messy very quickly and the important information gets lost in the chatter scrolling off the top of the screen.
Journals provide a place to put the important information and allow some interaction and some privacy, but is away from the short term chatter of messaging.
I don't want to sign up or download another app
Flojourn is a web-app which means the people you want to talk to just use the web browser already on their phone or computer.
Public journals can be viewed by anyone without needing log in or have an account, they just go to a web address.
To access more private journals, they can just sign in with their Google, Facebook or LinkedIn account or get a one time passcode by email, no account setup or any further hassle.
Lessons, Sessions and Meet-ups
On the "club" tier, flojourn has some features to help you organise your events and connect with your people.
If you add events to a journal they can have allow an RSVP so you know who will be coming. You can also use events to track attendance. You can even publish the events from a journal as a calendar that people can connect to the calendars like Google Calendar.
You can embed a journal on your main website, so that new entries flow directly there keeping it up-to-date with fresh information.
There are also journal exports (pdf, Word, html), a presentation mode for journals and others.
